2005 is the Cententary year of George MacDonald's death and as a result a number of events are inprospect or at a planning stage. Details of some are shown below (and more information will follow as it becomes available). If you are aware of others please let us know.
Saturday May 14th, 2005. Hastings, England
Holy Trinity Church, Hastings starting at 10 am. In the morning there will be talks and a slideshow while in the afternoon a coach tour has been organised visiting places of particular MacDonald/ Lewis Carroll interest in the area. Bookings can be made via:

The cost will be £5 plus lunch (i.e. £8 Salad £7 Sandwich) and represents excellent value. UK Cheques should be made payable to the 'George MacDonald Society' and enclosed with booking forms. On receipt of a firm booking a map will be sent giving directions.
I attended a similar event in 2001 (some photographs can be found here) and can thoroughly recommend this as a fascinating opportunity to discover George MacDonald's Hastings and its links to other well known literary figures including Lewis Carroll.

At 2 pm an English Heritage blue plaque will be unveiled at Tudor Lodge, MacDonald's home at Albert Street, London.
Saturday July 23rd, 2005. Worcester, England
George MacDonald Centenary Conference. University College Worcester, England. International Centre for Research in Primary English and Childrens Literature. Keynote speakers Prof. Rod McGillis (Calgary), Prof. Maria Nikolajeva (Stockholm), Prof. David Neuhouser (Indiana). A one day conference: £50 including lunch.

It is hoped that the 2005 Mythcon of the Mythopoeic Society hosted by the Tolkien Society in Birmingham, England will include a session on MacDonald.

Exhibition in Aberdeen and MacDonald Society's Annual General Meeting with guest speaker (dates to be confirmed).

The proposed American 2005 East and West Coast Workshops will probably be on Phantastes. The tentantive title is "How to (mis)understand Phantastes: Escaping from the Nonsense of the Introductions in the Everyman and Erdmans Editions of Phantastes." Contact Nancy Mellon.

The importance of George MacDonald's work is being rediscovered
and the Society works to further this interest.
Formed in 1981, it publishes an annual journal, North Wind
which carries articles related to his life and work, reviews
of new books, and other publications relevant to MacDonald
Studies. A quarterly newsletter, Orts is also produced
to provide news of events, meetings, lectures, or visits and
any other information of interest to members.
A research collection of works on and by MacDonald
has been established at King's College, London, where he taught
at one time, and is available to anyone wishing to use it.
Membership of the Society is open to all who
are interested.
